Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz refuses to provide Ukraine with Taurus cruise missiles due to Russia’s nuclear threats, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
“As I understand it, the Chancellor [Scholz] says that Germany is not a nuclear state and that this [Taurus missiles] is the most powerful weapon system in Germany. And Scholz cannot leave his country without this weapon system,” Zelenskyy said in an interview with the German publication Bild.
At the same time, no weapon, not even American F-16 fighter jets or ATACMS missiles, can be “truly useful” and protect the world from the nuclear threat posed by Russia, emphasized Zelenskyy.
“Our partners have certain weapons that we need today to survive. It is necessary for Ukraine to survive, and I just don’t understand why we are not getting this weapon,” said the Ukrainian president.
Currently, Ukrainians pin great hope on a billion-dollar aid package from the United States, which has been blocked by Republicans in Congress for months, the president added.
It was previously reported that the company MBDA, the manufacturer of Taurus missiles, was forced to halt production due to the lack of orders.
