Zaluzhnyi appointed as Ukraine’s Ambassador to UK

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has appointed former Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, to the position of Ukraine’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom, as reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

“The president of Ukraine approved the candidacy of Valerii Zaluzhnyi as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on Thursday, 7 March 2024. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has sent the relevant request for agrément [approval of a country to accept a specific individual as the head of diplomatic representation] to the UK,” the statement said.

Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine and the United Kingdom have already achieved a historically unprecedented level of cooperation. “With the UK, we signed the first bilateral agreement on security guarantees. We must fully implement it – for the sake of our joint strength. Today, the candidacy of our Ambassador to the United Kingdom was approved. General Valerii Zaluzhnyi spoke to me precisely about such a direction for himself – diplomatic. Our alliance with the UK should only strengthen,” added the President of Ukraine.

Valerii Zaluzhny has not commented on his appointment so far. The decision to dismiss Zaluzhny from the position of Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces was made on February 8.

The Ukrainian World Congress congratulates General Valerii Zaluzhnyi on his appointment and wishes him success in advancing Ukraine’s victory.
