World leaders prepare for Peace Summit as Ukraine draws in new participants

The Global Peace Summit in Switzerland in June could be a ‘big step’ towards achieving peace, said German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, as reported by Tagesschau. “Even if the main issue of peace is not yet being discussed there, addressing issues that are also part of it would be a big step. This could be further developed,” the Chancellor added.

The chancellor also expressed hope that as many countries as possible would join the Summit. “I very much want countries from the Arabian Peninsula, India, South Africa, Brazil, and, if possible, China to be there,” Scholz added.

Recently, the Prime Minister of Canada announced that Canada will join the Peace Summit. “The First Peace Summit for Ukraine is in June – and Canada will be there. I look forward to joining other world leaders to advance our shared goal of just and lasting peace for Ukraine,” Trudeau wrote.

Meanwhile, Ukraine is trying to involve more participants in the Summit. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that he invited the President of Argentina, Javier Milei, to the Peace Summit.

As part of our regular dialogue, I spoke with Argentinian President Javier Milei. I appreciate Argentina’s support for the Peace Formula. Because it is important that the voice of Latin America be heard at our Peace Summit in Switzerland, I invited President Milei to attend it,” Zelenskyy wrote. Argentina’s decision is currently unknown.

The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) called on Ukrainian communities worldwide to approach their governments and leaders with a proposal to participate in this meeting. The Global Peace Summit is scheduled to take place on June 15-16, 2024, at the Bürgenstock Resort near Lucerne, Switzerland.
