The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, submitted to President Volodymyr Zelensky a proposal to sever diplomatic relations with Iran due to the latter’s supply of weapons to Russia, the BBC reports. At the same time, Kuleba places full responsibility on Iran for wrecking the relations with Ukraine.
“Taking into account the numerous destructions caused by Iranian drones to the civil infrastructure of Ukraine, the deaths and sufferings caused to our people, as well as in connection with the emergence of reports about the continued supply of weapons by Iran to Russia, I submit to the consideration of the President of Ukraine a proposal to sever diplomatic relations with Iran,” BBC quotes the Ukrainian minister.
As Kuleba noted, the level of relations with Iran has already been reduced to a minimum. “This is already a level beyond which there can be only a break in diplomatic relations.”
“Harsh sanctions against Iran are a particularly urgent issue now that we see reports of the Iranian side’s intentions to transfer ballistic missiles for use against Ukrainians,” added the Foreign Ministry chief.
He also announced Ukraine’s intention to appeal to Israel with a request to provide air defense systems and “initiate high-quality cooperation regarding Ukraine’s acquisition of appropriate technologies.”
