Wagner in Belarus: Poland to expand its military

Poland plans to double its army. The country’s government announced its intention to restore military units and create new ones, Jarosław Kaczyński, Deputy Prime Minister of Poland, reported.

“One of the main tasks, perhaps even the main task of the state… is to protect security. Security in all dimensions,” Kaczyński said.

The Polish army consisted of three divisions and will now have six. In addition, another additional division may appear later, the Deputy Prime Minister said. Earlier, Mariusz Błaszczak, Minister of National Defense of Poland, also announced that the missile and artillery unit is returning to the Polish Army after an 18-year break.

The Polish authorities are currently busy strengthening the border with Belarus – building fences and installing additional electronic devices for protection. Also, some military formations were moved from the west to the east.

Additional security measures are related to the threat of the Wagner group moving to the territory of Belarus. Mateusz Morawiecki, Prime Minister of Poland, announced on July 29 that the mercenaries of Wagner private military company are moving towards the Suwałki Gap. This territory connects Poland with the Baltic States and separates the Kaliningrad Oblast and Belarus territories.

“Now the situation is becoming even more dangerous. We have information that more than 100 mercenaries of the Wagner Group have moved towards the Suwałki Gap near Hrodna in Belarus,” Morawiecki said.

Poland has been facing constant attacks on its border for the past two years. Belarus provides illegal migrants with equipment that allows them to cross the fence on the Polish border, said Stanisław Żaryn, the Polish government’s plenipotentiary for the security of information space.

Earlier, the National Resistance Center, citing the resistance among the military of Belarus, reported that the Russian terrorist organization Wagner is looking for Belarusians who are ready to fight against Lithuania and Poland.
