Santiago de Chile, – Vice-President of the Ukrainian World Congress in Latin America, Vice-President of UWC and President of the Ukrainian-Brazilian Central Representation Vitorio Sorotiuk, accompanied by Ms. Oksana Tunska, President of the Ukrainian-Chilean Cultural Corporation MALVA (“Corporación cultural ucraniano-chilena MALVA”) met with H.E. Ambassador Francisco Gormáz Lira, Ambassador of Chile, Director of the European Policy Sector at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile, and with Manuel Galdames, Advisor to the Minister and Deputy Director, on Wednesday, September 14, 2022.
During the meeting, Vitorio Sorotiuk expressed gratitude to the government of Chile for condemning the russian invasion of Ukraine, supporting the protection of Ukrainian territorial integrity, and standing in solidarity with the Ukrainian people.
Just like the previous president of Chile, Sebastian Piñera, condemned the russian invasion right after the latter began, the current Chilean president, Gabriel Boric, also expressed his strong condemnation of russian aggression.
“Russia has chosen war as a way to resolve conflicts. On the part of Chile, we condemn the invasion of Ukraine, the violation of its sovereignty and the illegitimate use of force. Our solidarity will be with the victims, and our modest efforts will be in support of peace,” wrote President Boric on his Twitter page. During the meeting, Vitorio Sorotiuk also spoke about the activities of the Ukrainian-Brazilian community and about the new opportunities for cooperation with Ukrainian organizations in Chile.
