The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) welcomes the recent decision by the Parliament of Armenia to embark on the process of European Union (EU) accession.
This pivotal step signifies Armenia’s unwavering dedication to the core values of democracy, human rights, and the rule of law – principles that unite the European family of nations and the broader democratic international community. It also reaffirms Armenia’s steadfast commitment to its democratic path and future.
For decades, Armenia was closely aligned with Russia, supporting Moscow’s integration initiatives within the post-Soviet space. However, the Southern Caucasus region is now witnessing a historic shift, breaking free from Moscow’s centuries-old political domination and finding itself at the heart of profound geopolitical transformation.
“Wherever Russia intervenes, it brings only suffering and instability. We commend Armenia’s historic decision to strengthen its ties with Europe and express our unwavering support for all Armenians who aspire to a sovereign, independent, European and democratic Armenia,” stated UWC President Paul Grod.
“We also welcome the finalization of a peace deal between Armenia and Azerbaijan, which will lay the groundwork for achieving lasting peace and stability in the region,” Grod added.
Democratic and sovereign Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia, free from Russian influence, are crucial to ensuring the long-term security and stability of the EU, Ukraine, and Europe as a whole.
