UWC welcomes Prosvita Ukrainian Association in Colombia as affiliate supporter

The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) has officially welcomed the Prosvita Ukrainian Association in Colombia into its network as an affiliate organization based on a UWC Membership Committee decision that was made on Jan. 4.

Founded in 2023, the Prosvita Ukrainian Association in Colombia is a social and cultural organization dedicated to preserving Ukrainian identity and culture abroad. Its mission is to build bridges between Ukrainians and the people of Colombia, support cultural, educational, and charitable initiatives, and strengthen the friendly ties between the two nations.

The organization also counters Russian propaganda in Latin America and provides Spanish-language information about the experiences of Ukrainians during the full-scale invasion.

Key activities of the association include organizing cultural events such as the observation of holidays, holding forums, exhibitions, film screenings, and exchange programs. It offers language courses and delivers lectures. It also assists displaced persons and cooperates with international organizations; and promotes truthful information about the war in Ukraine while combating disinformation.

Prosvita works diligently to preserve the Ukrainian language and traditions within Ukrainian-Colombian families and among Colombians, while also supporting joint projects and cultural exchanges to further solidify the relationship between Ukraine and Colombia.

The organization also organizes protests near the Russian embassy, peaceful demonstrations to raise awareness about the war in Ukraine, and events aimed at informing the Colombian public about the situation in Ukraine through Spanish-language outreach.

In September, the UWC expanded its network, welcoming eight new organizations from Japan, Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Malta, Montenegro, Germany, and North Macedonia.
