UWC welcomes Joint Statement on 16th EU-Ukraine Summit

The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) welcomes the reaffirmation of the commitment of both the European Union and Ukraine to the signing of the already initialed EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, as expressed in the joint statement issued following the 16th EU-Ukraine Summit held on 25 February 2013 in Brussels, Belgium.

“The joint acknowledgement of Ukraine’s European aspirations and the will of both parties to remain engaged on the basis of respect for common values and their effective promotion is a positive message,” commented UWC President Eugene Czolij. “Time, however, is of the essence. Today, the EU demonstrated its commitment to Ukraine with concrete actions. The UWC expects that Ukraine’s governing authorities will, in turn, expeditiously demonstrate adherence to democratic principles, respect for fundamental human rights and freedoms, and the rule of law, critical to the signing of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement.”

UWC President Eugene Czolij is currently on a five-day working visit to Brussels where he is meeting with high-ranking officials of the European Union to discuss the importance of Ukraine’s accelerated Euro-integration.
