The Ukrainian World Congress welcomes the European Union’s decision to approve funding for Ukraine of €50 billion, as announced by the President of the European Council, Charles Michel. All 27 member countries unanimously agreed upon the decision.

“This locks in steadfast, long-term, predictable funding for Ukraine. EU is taking leadership and responsibility in support for Ukraine; we know what is at stake,” emphasized Michel.

“It is very important that the decision was made by all 27 leaders, which once again proves strong EU unity. Continued EU financial support for Ukraine will strengthen long-term economic and financial stability, which is no less important than military assistance and sanctions pressure on Russia,” wrote Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
European Union leaders suggest integrating the concept of annual discussions on the proposed €50 billion aid package for Ukraine into the EU summit decision, according to European Pravda. This initiative aims to gain Hungary’s backing for the funds’ allocation and was originally proposed as a compromise by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
Hungary has long been blocking the adoption of a decision on allocating €50 billion to Ukraine. Additionally, Hungary consistently obstructs the procedure for approving the 12th package of EU sanctions against Russia and the decision to disburse the 8th tranche of defense assistance to Ukraine amounting to €500 million from the intergovernmental European Peace Facility.
