UWC welcomes Canada’s announcement to deploy observation mission for re-elections in five single mandate electoral districts in Ukraine

The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) welcomes the announcement that Canada is deploying an election observation mission for the re-elections in five single mandate electoral districts in Ukraine scheduled for 15 December 2013 and calls upon other countries to do the same.

In a statement released on 26 November 2013 Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird wrote, “This is about supporting the people of Ukraine in their difficult journey toward democracy. They will see an enhanced international election monitoring presence in their country, and improved electoral processes that discourage election fraud and support free and fair elections.”

The first of the team’s 25 observers are deploying to Ukraine this week.

In his statement, Minister Baird also welcomed the Ukrainian-Canadian community’s contribution to the international election observation efforts of the Ukrainian World Congress.
