The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) applauds Ukraine’s adoption of amendments to the law on national minorities.
The UWC expects that the new legislation, grounded in robust international standards protecting national minorities, will facilitate Ukraine’s rapid accession to the European Union.
“I would like to recognize the multi-party consensus in crafting and adopting this legislation by Ukraine’s Parliament. This demonstrates the unity and maturity of Ukrainian society and its poltical culture as well as commitment to protecting human rights and cultural diversity,” said Paul Grod, President of the Ukrainian World Congress. “We also anticipate this decision will ensure stronger support for the cultural identity and education for Ukrainian communities by European Union member states.”
The Verkhovna Rada’s overwhelming support for the law’s amendments, with the constitutional majority of 317 votes in favor on December 8, aligns with the prerequisites needed to kickstart negotiations for Ukraine’s EU accession. President Zelenskyy promptly signed the law on the same day.
