The global community should focus on Russia’s actions and recognize that the only country that is truly seeking peace is Ukraine, said Third Vice President of the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) Andriy Futey in an interview with MySunCoast ABC 7.
Futey reiterated that Russia had launched a massive aerial attack on Ukraine soon after promising a temporary ceasefire.
“President [Volodymyr] Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian government have repeatedly stated in recent weeks, months, and even during today’s [March 19 – ed.] conversation with President [Donald] Trump, that they are committed to peace, Futey said.
He continued: “However, [Kremlin ruler Vladimir] Putin and the Russian government cannot be trusted.”
Ukraine desires peace more than anyone, but it must be a fair peace, he stressed.
“Too many lives have been lost. However, the fact remains that Ukraine needs security guarantees to prevent Putin from returning and launching another attack once he strengthens his army,” Futey added.
