UWC Vice President welcomes New Zealand’s continued support for Ukraine

New Zealand will continue supporting the Ukrainian military until at least the end of 2026 and will expand its involvement in training programs, the country’s Prime Minister Christopher Luxon announced.

New Zealand is unwavering in its support for Ukraine against Russia’s illegal and unprovoked invasion. That is why we are extending our deployment of up to 100 New Zealand Defence Force personnel to train Ukrainian soldiers in the UK and throughout Europe, and provide intelligence, liaison and logistics support through to December 2026,” Luxon said.

Nataliya Poshyvaylo-Towler, UWC Vice President for Southern and Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Türkiye, and Lebanon, expressed gratitude to the New Zealand government for its unwavering support.

“Thank you to the New Zealand Government for your ongoing support for Ukraine!” Poshyvaylo-Towler wrote.

Auckland’s assistance will also include providing intelligence and logistical support to Ukraine.

As part of the 2025-2026 plan, New Zealand troops will continue training Ukrainian soldiers in Europe, assisting the wounded, and teaching military personnel how to defuse explosive devices at sea.

New Zealand welcomes efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace, and is following the negotiations on a potential ceasefire very closely. New Zealand is also actively involved in the UK-led discussions on options for peace support if the conflict concludes,” the statement read.

New Zealand has provided Ukraine with $152 million in assistance since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, according to the government.
