On 25 October 2015 the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) issued a statement appealing to the UN Commission on the Status of Women to demand the immediate release by Russian authorities of Ukrainian citizen Nadiya Savchenko and to urge the international community, including human rights organizations, to raise awareness of her case.
Nadiya Savchenko, Member of Ukrainian Parliament and delegate to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, remains illegally imprisoned in the Russian Federation for political considerations.
“The Ukrainian World Congress appeals to the entire international community to demand the immediate release of Nadiya Savchenko whose imprisonment is in clear violation of international law and clause 6 of the Minsk Agreement of 12 February 2015,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij.
