UWC urges OSCE to deploy military observers
to Eastern and Southern Ukraine
On 12 March 2014 Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) President Eugene Czolij issued a letter to the Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), Ambassador Lamberto Zannier, urging the OSCE to deploy military observers to Eastern and Southern Ukraine to monitor the situation on the ground and deter Russian Armed Forces from moving further onto the territory of Ukraine.
With alarming reports of a build-up of Russian troops along Ukraine’s Eastern border, the UWC emphasized the urgency of the situation.
“The rapid escalation of events in Ukraine with President Vladimir Putin solidifying his hold on the Crimean peninsula immediately requires every possible intervention on the part of the international community to prevent a military confrontation and preserve stability in the region,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij.
