UWC urges NATO to invite Ukraine on Ukrainian Defenders’ Day

On October 1, as Ukraine commemorates the Day of Ukrainian Defenders, the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) renews its call for NATO to extend a membership invitation to Kyiv. This recently established national day of remembrance, coincides with the Feast of the Intercession of the Blessed Mother of God, or Pokrova, a tradition dating back to the 12th century. The Blessed Virgin is revered as the patron saint of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Today, we express our deep gratitude to all defenders of Ukraine, including those who have resisted Russian aggression and those protecting Europe and the world from further invasion. These defenders safeguard their homeland, freedom, loved ones, and life itself.

For over 2.5 years, the UWC has proudly supported the Ukrainian armed forces through the Unite With Ukraine initiative. This program provides essential military supplies such as armored vehicles, drones, tactical medical supplies, and other critical equipment, helping to save the lives of Ukrainian heroes daily.

“The UWC and the global Ukrainian diaspora stand firmly with Ukraine’s defenders and will continue to do so until Ukraine is victorious and Russia is defeated. We urge all who support freedom and democracy to join our UniteWithUkraine campaign and donate today at www.unitewithukraine.com,” said Paul Grod, UWC President.

Ukraine’s fight extends beyond its own freedom, independence, and sovereignty. It is a battle for Europe’s freedom and the values that underpin democratic societies worldwide. The Ukrainian Armed Forces have been crucial in maintaining peace, well-being, and stability in Europe and the broader Euro-Atlantic community.

In the current geopolitical climate, some NATO countries’ hesitation to address Ukraine’s accession to the Alliance is a vulnerability exploited by Moscow and its allies. This indecision undermines NATO’s credibility and emboldens its adversaries.

“On Ukrainian Defenders’ Day, we once again urge NATO leaders to invite Ukraine to begin accession talks. This strategic move not only paves the way for a just and lasting peace in Ukraine but also strengthens the Alliance’s defensive capabilities and reaffirms its commitment to countering Russian imperialism. To stop the Russian threat, we must act boldly and decisively!” Grod emphasized.
