UWC urges global support for Ukrainian children’s education in exile

The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) is calling for urgent support of Ukrainian educational centers as part of its “Have Faith In Ukraine’s Future” campaign.

These centers are vital lifelines for children uprooted by Russia’s full-scale invasion – offering not only education, but also connection, national identity preservation, culture, and hope.

More than two million Ukrainian children have been forced to seek refuge abroad and flee what was once secure and safe households.

Separated from their homes, schools, and friends, these children face a significant risk of losing their connection to their Ukrainian roots and identity – a loss with profound consequences.

In a world grappling with information warfare and Russia’s attempts to rewrite history, bolstering the national consciousness of Ukraine’s younger generation is paramount. A strong sense of identity is crucial for their resilience, successful integration, access to quality education, and the ability to shape their future.

Fortunately, a global network of over 300 weekly Ukrainian schools acts as crucial anchors of Ukrainian culture. Dedicated educators in these institutions tirelessly work to preserve the native language, rich traditions, and unique identity of displaced children.

These schools have become more than just educational venues; they are vital communities fostering belonging, pride in heritage, and hope for eventual return.

The UWC’s International Educational Coordinating Council (IECC) is spearheading efforts to strengthen this critical area. Our mission is to ensure young Ukrainians maintain a deep connection with their heritage, rich history, and enduring values.

Your support represents a powerful investment in Ukraine’s future. Together, we can:

  • Equip schools and teachers with educational resources
  • Support the work of Ukrainian schools in diaspora communities
  • Empower the next generation with the education they deserve

A flagship initiative of the IECC is the development of the first-ever Ukrainian history textbook tailored specifically for diaspora schools and children aged eight and above. This innovative project will introduce young Ukrainians worldwide to the authentic, engaging, and inspiring narratives of Ukraine’s past, fostering a stronger national consciousness, cultivating critical thinking skills, and nurturing a deep sense of pride in their heritage.

Education is not merely a right for every child; it is the bedrock of their identity and a reliable pathway to a brighter future. Join our campaign and help Ukrainian children remain connected to who they are.
