The Malvy Literary Club Australia is hosting a special literary event to mark the anniversary of the 1932-1933 Holodomor genocide, as announced by Nataliya Poshyvaylo-Towler, UWC Vice President for Southern and Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Türkiye, and Lebanon.
“We invite children and adults to join us for a unique literary event where, through the power of words, we will remember and share the story of the Holodomor with younger generations,” the Malvy Literary Club said in an announcement.
Two thematic books will feature in the discussions: “Through Fire over Water” – a memoir collection by a woman from Poltava, compiled by Nataliya Poshyvaylo-Towler, who lived through the tragedy of the Holodomor. The second book is titled, “Holodomor: Silenced Voices of the Starved Children” by Aussie-born Lesia Melnychuk.
“These books capture the depth of the tragedy, helping to pass its lessons on to new generations,” the event description states.
The Holodomor is not just a tragedy of the past; it is “a lesson of courage, resilience, and unbreakable spirit that continues to live in the hearts of Ukrainians,” the organizers added.
“It serves as a reminder of who we are and why it is so important to preserve the truth. We are the living link between the past and the future, and this memory is a vital part of our strength,” they said.
The event will take place online on Nov. 17 at 10:00 AM Kyiv time. You can join via the provided link.
As reported earlier, the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) is launching a global advocacy campaign titled “Remembering the Holodomor – the genocide of Ukrainians continues,” to commemorate the Holodomor genocide of 1932-1933, observed this year on Nov. 23. More information about the campaign is available via the link.
