UWC raises awareness of international community of psychological pressure on EuroMaidan supporters

On 19 December 2013 Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) President Eugene Czolij issued a letter to the international community drawing attention to recent reports of undue psychological pressure being exerted by Ukraine’s authorities and security forces on EuroMaidan supporters.

The UWC highlighted the very perturbing statement issued on 13 December 2013 by the Rectorate of the Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv, which describes an active offensive by Ukraine’s authorities against students who have participated in the protest movement.

The UWC cited additional examples of people being persecuted for supporting EuroMaidan protests with a reference to a statement issued by Lviv Mayor Andrii Sadovyi, and examples of individuals being pressured to participate in anti-EuroMaidan rallies under the threat of employment termination.

“The Ukrainian World Congress is appealing to the international community to remain vigilant during this upcoming holiday season and closely monitor this troubling situation in Ukraine,” said UWC President Eugene Czolij. “We also call upon them to press Ukraine’s governing authorities to fully respect the fundamental right to freedom of expression and immediately cease all physical force and psychological intimidation of EuroMaidan supporters.”
