While concluding his visit to Spain, Ukrainian World Congress President Paul Grod spoke with Catalunya Radio, highlighting issues concerning Ukrainian refugees in Catalonia and the broader effects of Russia’s war on Europe.
Grod emphasized that Russian aggression would result in even more casualties if the occupiers are not stopped in Ukraine. “The end of the war depends on the European and Western support for Ukraine,” Grod asserted.
The conversation touched on the mass migration prompted by Russia’s invasion, the largest since World War II. Grod thanked Catalan officials for their hospitality towards Ukrainian refugees.
“Catalonia is a wonderful place for Ukrainian refugees, of whom there are currently between 40,000 and 60,000. This is because Catalans are very open and friendly; Ukrainians feel at home here,” Grod remarked.
The UWC President Paul Grod conducted official visits to Spain and Portugal, which commenced on March 9th in Lisbon, continued to Porto, Madrid, and concluded in Barcelona. The meetings with government officials, Members of the European Parliament, diplomats, local authorities, and, traditionally, the Ukrainian community aimed to bolster support for Ukraine abroad and coordinate efforts to enhance military aid.
