UWC PRESIDENT PARTICIPATES IN ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF UKRAINIAN CREDIT UNIONS OF CANADA




On November 3, 2012, Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) President Eugene Czolij participated in the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Council of Ukrainian Credit Unions of Canada (CUCUC) held in Toronto, Ontario. The AGM was attended by delegates representing six credit unions headquartered in Hamilton, Montreal, Saskatoon, Toronto and Winnipeg.

 


During the meeting, Eugene Czolij thanked the Ukrainian credit unions in Canada for financially supporting the UWC throughout its 45-year history, and for their generosity with respect to various important Ukrainian projects. He also noted the effective work of the CUCUC chaired by Olya Sheweli in coordinating the efforts of Ukrainian credit unions in Canada and in the rebirth of the cooperative movement in Ukraine. Eugene Czolij took the opportunity to inform the delegates about the main activities of the UWC, highlighting the contacts with high-level officials of international institutions and governments of various countries to advance human and national rights issues of Ukrainians both in Ukraine and beyond its borders.The UWC President also spoke about the UWC Election Observation Mission to the 2012 Parliamentary Election in Ukraine on October 28.

 


The UWC is the international coordinating body for Ukrainian communities in the diaspora representing the interests of over 20 million Ukrainians. The UWC has member organizations in 33 countries and ties with Ukrainians in 14 additional countries. Founded in 1967 as a non-profit corporation, the UWC was recognized in 2003 by the United Nations Economic and Social Council as a non-governmental organization (NGO) with special consultative status.
