On 24 September 2018, Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) President Eugene Czolij participated in events organized by the Atlantic Council in New York, USA.

The UWC President joined the discussion during a strategic session of the Atlantic Council on the topic of Ukraine during which he emphasized the importance of effectively communicating to the international community factual information about Ukraine, and the continued consolidation of the international community to combat Russian hybrid aggression, which poses a global threat, including the strengthening of sanctions against the Russian Federation.

During the strategic session, a range of issues related to Ukraine were discussed following the presentations by Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze, Senior Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs Ambassador Paula Dobriansky, Senior Fellow in the Eurasia Center at the Atlantic Council Anders Åslund, Distinguished Fellow with the Atlantic Council’s Future Europe Initiative and Dinu Patriciu Eurasia Center Ambassador Daniel Fried, Executive Vice President of the Atlantic Council Damon Wilson and Director of the Atlantic Council Eurasia Center John Herbst.

On this day, Eugene Czolij attended the presentation of the Atlantic Council’s Global Citizen Awards where he had the opportunity to convey both condolences and gratitude of the Ukrainian diaspora to Cindy McCain, widow of the late Senator John McCain, who actively supported Ukraine.

Also attending the Atlantic Council events with the UWC President were UWC Vice President and President of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) Paul Grod, Chair of the UWC Committee for UN Affairs Tamara Olexy, Chair of the UWC International Scholarly Council Volodymyr Zaryckyj, Chair of the UCC Advisory Council James Temerty and Louise Temerty, Vice Chair of the UCC Advisory Council Ian Ihnatowycz and UWC representative to the Atlantic Council Alexa Chopivsky.

The UWC cooperates with the Atlantic Council, a renowned analytical centre, in the implementation of its “Ukraine in Europe” initiative with the goal of strengthening international support for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, including Crimea. This initiative also aims to support reforms in Ukraine and its Euro-Atlantic integration, and to combat Russian disinformation.

“The Ukrainian World Congress emphasizes the significance of this strategy session of the Atlantic Council in presenting the factual picture of Ukraine with the goal of ensuring it the continued support of the international community,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij.
