On 25 February 2014, in Strasbourg, France, Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) President Eugene Czolij discussed urgent issues related to the situation in Ukraine with the Chairman of the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs, Elmar Brok.

The UWC President acknowledged the European Parliament for the European Parliament resolution of 6 February 2014 on the situation in Ukraine adopted in response to the numerous appeals from Ukrainians in Ukraine and throughout the diaspora, including the UWC.

Discussing the main points of this resolution, Eugene Czolij called on the European Parliament to support a financial package to alleviate the present tight situation in respect of payments and to help launch the necessary deep and comprehensive reforms of the Ukrainian economy.

Eugene Czolij also focused on the importance of signing the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement and called upon the European Parliament to declare that this Agreement is a step for Ukraine towards membership in the European Union.

“The Ukrainian World Congress calls upon the European Parliament to react to Russia’s violations of international obligations with respect to Ukraine, specifically the commitments of the 1994 Memorandum on Security Assurances in connection with Ukraine’s accession to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, concerning any encroachment on the territorial integrity of Ukraine,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij. “We also urge the European Union  to send its representatives to Eastern and Southern Ukraine, primarily to the Crimea, where internal and external forces are attempting to fuel separatist movements.”
