UWC PRESIDENT MEETS WITH LEADERS OF THE UKRAINIAN COMMUNITY IN POLAND




On November 3, 2011, during a visit to Warsaw, Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) President Eugene Czolij met with leaders of the Ukrainian community in Poland.

 


The participants discussed current issues pertaining to local community life, including possible fund-raising strategies to fully restorethe activities in the Ukrainian Home in Przemysl.

 


The UWC President informed the participants ofthe UWC’s work in defendingthe fundamental freedoms and human rights of Ukrainians and assisting with Ukraine’s integration into European structures. He appealed to the community leaders for effective cooperation, including active participation in the observer mission from the Ukrainian diaspora for the 2012 Parliamentary elections in Ukraine.

 


Participating in the meeting were the President and Secretary of the Association of Ukrainians in Poland(AUP), Piotr Tyma and Miroslaw Kupicz, AUP Board member and Polish Sejm Deputy, Miron Sycz, Provincial superior of the Monastery of the Order of St. Basil the Great, Father Ihor Harasym, Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Josaphat parish priest, Father Petro Kushka, President of the Ukrainian Women’s Association in Poland, Kateryna Sirocka, professor Rostyslav Kramar, first AUP President Jurij Rejt, editor of the weekly Nashe Slovo (Our Word), Yaroslav Prystash, and Chair of the Fund Nash Vybir (Our Choice), Myroslava Keryk.
