On 21 February 2014, Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) President Eugene Czolij met in Vienna, Austria, with Martin Botta, Minister Plenipotentiary, and Jutta Edthofer, Head of Division, Eastern Europe, Southern Caucasus and Central Asia, of Austria`s Ministry for European and International Affairs.
Highlighting the difficult struggle of the Ukrainian people for democracy and the strengthening of European values, Eugene Czolij focused on the importance of accelerating the signing of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement and Ukraine’s accession into the European Union.
During the meeting, the UWC President urged Austria to support the new government of Ukraine with a financial support package to alleviate the present tight situation in respect of payments and to help launch the necessary deep and comprehensive reforms of the Ukrainian economy.
“The Ukrainian World Congress stresses the importance of an international investigation of the acts of violence and the punishment of all those responsible for the violations of human rights and freedoms in Ukraine, and appeals to Austria to lend assistance in this effort,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij.
