From March 15 to 19, 2011 the President of the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) Eugene Czolij met with the Chair of the European Parliament Delegation to the EU-Ukraine Parliamentary Cooperation Committee Pawel Kowal, the Chair of the European Parliament Subcommittee on Human Rights Heidi Hautala, a subcommittee member Leonidas Donskis and the Adviser on External Affairs of the President of the European Parliament Arnoldas Pranckevičius.
UWC’s President raised several current issues concerning Ukraine’s European integration, violations of fundamental rights and freedoms in Ukraine, as well as the sustained attempts of Russian authorities to liquidate two Ukrainian NGOs in Russia, the Federal National Cultural Autonomy of Ukrainians of Russia and the Union of Ukrainians in Russia, and to close the Library of Ukrainian Literature in Moscow.
