UWC PRESIDENT EUGENE CZOLIJ VISITS THE UKRAINIAN COMMUNITY IN WINDSOR


 


On June 12, 2011, Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) President, Eugene Czolij, visited the Ukrainian community in Windsor, Canada. He gave a presentation on UWC’s work and became better acquainted with the activities of the local branch of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress.


 


During his visit, the UWC President participated in Divine Liturgy at Sts. Volodymyr and Olha Ukrainian Catholic Church, following which he addressed the Ukrainian community and gave a summary of UWC activities during the past year. In his presentation, he highlighted the strengthening of UWC’s cooperation with high-level international organizations and governments in countries of the Ukrainian diaspora, primarily in order to defend the fundamental rights and freedoms of Ukrainians in the diaspora and Ukraine. At the conclusion of the public meeting, the President of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress Windsor Branch, Peter Mycak, presented a donation to the UWC.


 


The UWC President had an opportunity to visit St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the memorial honouring victims of the Holodomor of 1932-33. 


 


Eugene Czolij also participated in a requiem in memory of fallen Ukrainian heroes and heroines held at the cemetery in front of the monument to Sts. Volodymyr and Olha. Following the service, he delivered a thematic address paying tribute to the heroes and heroines who, at various times, became examples of patriotism and courage in the struggle for their nation and native land. The text of the address is available at https://www.ukrainianworldcongress.org/news.php/news/563/lang/ua.
