UKRAINIAN WORLD CONGRESS PRESIDENT EUGENE CZOLIJ
PARTICIPATES IN XXI CONGRESS OF UKRAINIANS IN AMERICA
On September 29-30, 2012, Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) President Eugene Czolij participated in the XXI Congress of Ukrainians in America. Over 200 delegates and guests gathered in Yonkers, USA, to review the accomplishments of the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America (UCCA) over the past four years and to plan for the future.
UCCA is one of the strongest UWC member organizations and, for more than seven decades, has been representing the Ukrainian-American community in the United States, resolutely defending the interests of Ukraine and the Ukrainian nation as a whole.
On September 29, Eugene Czolij delivered the keynote address during the banquet, expressing gratitude to UCCA for its cooperation with the UWC and recognizing the organization’s dedicated work for the benefit of Ukrainians in the United States and Ukraine. In his remarks, the UWC President focused on various anti-Ukrainian actions of the current governing authorities in Ukraine and in relation to this, highlighted the activities of UCCA in defense of Ukraine’s statehood and democratization. Eugene Czolij recognized the important role of UCCA observer missions during elections in Ukraine, as well as its success in raising awareness of the Holodomor, particularly the work done towards the erection of a monument in Washington in memory of the victims of this genocide.
At the conclusion of the Congress, Eugene Czolij extended greetings to the newly-elected UCCA leadership – President Tamara Gallo Olexy and the Executive.
The UWC is the international coordinating body for Ukrainian communities in the diaspora representing the interests of over 20 million Ukrainians. The UWC has member organizations in 33 countries and ties with Ukrainians in 14 additional countries. Founded in 1967 as a non-profit corporation, the UWC was recognized in 2003 by the United Nations Economic and Social Council as a non-governmental organization (NGO) with special consultative status.
