UWC President Eugene Czolij meets with Ukraine’s Vice Prime Minister, Ministers, National Security Council Chair and National Bank Governor
On 24-26 March 2014 Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) President met in Kyiv with Ukraine’s Vice Prime Minister Oleksandr Sych, Minister of the Cabinet of Ministers Ostap Semerak, Minister of Economic Development and Trade Pavlo Sheremeta, Minister of Education and Science Serhiy Kvit, Chair of the National Security and Defense Council Andriy Parubiy, Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine Stepan Kubiv, Deputy Minister of Justice Hanna Onyshchenko and Director of Protocol and International Cooperation of the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry Oleh Shevchenko.
These meetings focused on the recent troubling events in Ukraine, the illegitimate referendum in Crimea and its occupation by Russian armed forces which pose a global threat. Also discussed were sanctions and combatting disinformation with respect to events in Ukraine.
Other topics included the implementation of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, acceleration of Ukraine’s accession into the EU, adapting Ukrainian laws to European standards, Ukraine’s energy self-sufficiency, battling corruption, improving the investment climate, means of tackling the economic crisis, an international donor conference, the May presidential elections and international monitoring missions, including a mission from the UWC.
Ideas for strengthening cooperation between the UWC and the Government of Ukraine were shared.
“These meetings were very important for determining how the UWC can assist in furthering independence, Euro-integration and the continued development of the Ukrainian state,” commented UWC President Eugene Czolij.
In most meetings Eugene Czolij was joined by UWC Board members Paul Grod, President of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, and Zenon Potichny, UWC Treasurer.
