UWC President Eugene Czolij meets with Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatseniuk
On 24 March 2014 Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) President Eugene Czolij together with Ukrainian Canadian Congress President Paul Grod met in Kyiv with the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Arseniy Yatseniuk, to discuss important issues with respect to Ukraine and cooperation between the Government of Ukraine and the UWC.
Expressing greetings to the Prime Minister and the new Government of Ukraine, the UWC President noted that the international Ukrainian community will continue to support the Ukrainian people in their struggle to maintain independence and further democratization and Euro-integration.
During the meeting, particular emphasis was placed on issues related to the Russian occupation of Crimea, the threat of further invasion of Ukrainian territory by Russia, combating Russian disinformation, assistance for Ukraine’s armed forces, and increasing the international pressure on Russia.
Other topics included the implementation of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, the acceleration of Ukraine’s accession into the EU, the country’s difficult economic situation, financial support from the West to help alleviate the situation, the organization of an international donor conference and concrete measures to battle corruption. In addition, the parties discussed the upcoming presidential elections and the participation of international observers, including a mission from the UWC, and the creation of a database of experts and volunteers from the Ukrainian diaspora representing different walks of life who could assist Ukraine.
The meeting concluded with an agreed upon plan for future cooperation between the UWC and the Government of Ukraine on these and other issues.
“The meeting with Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatseniuk was productive and signaled the renewal of relations between the Government of Ukraine and the UWC, that will determinedly continue to defend the interests of Ukraine and the Ukrainian people,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij.
