On 31 May – 1 June 2018, Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) President Eugene Czolij fulfilled a visit to Valletta, Malta, with the goal of furthering current Ukrainian issues with the country’s governing authorities and civil society.

During meetings with government officials and parliamentarians, the UWC President reminded the Maltese authorities about the hybrid aggression of the Russian Federation that has occupied the Crimean peninsula and continues its military action in Eastern Ukraine. In conjunction, he called upon Malta as a member of the European Union (EU) to work for the support and strengthening of sanctions against the Russian Federation for violating the territorial integrity of Ukraine and abusing the human rights of Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars. The UWC President also shared the latest information on reforms in Ukraine and called upon Malta to support the Euro-integration process of Ukraine until it attains full membership in the EU.

During a meeting with members of the Association of Ukrainians in Malta, the UWC President familiarized himself with the aspirations and needs of Ukrainians in Malta, and discussed opportunities for continued cooperation with the UWC.

While in Malta, Eugene Czolij was accompanied by Director of the UWC Mission to the International Organizations in Brussels Maryna Iaroshevych.

“The Ukrainian World Congress calls upon Malta to continue supporting Ukraine, which today defends our common European values and stands on guard for peace in Europe,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij.
