On 24 October 2014 Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) President Eugene Czolij attended the UN Security Council meeting on Ukraine, which addressed the need for the international community to act in a manner that upholds Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity and to prevent another frozen conflict in Europe.
Eugene Czolij then met the UN Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights, Ivan Šimonović, to further discuss his report to the UN Security Council meeting on the human rights situation in Ukraine, the Minsk Agreement and issues related to the basic rights of Ukrainians in Russia.
The UWC President also met with the Director of the Europe Division of the UN Department of Political Affairs, Elizabeth Spehar, to discuss the current situation in Ukraine, as well as the work of the UWC and the UN Department of Political Affairs.
“The Ukrainian World Congress will continue to engage the UN in order to bring to an end to Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine and to ensure that the fundamental values of the UN are fully respected in that region,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij.
