On 15-16 October 2018, Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) President Eugene Czolij fulfilled a working visit to Cairo and Alexandria, Egypt, with the purpose of developing ties with the local Ukrainian communities and raising important Ukrainian issues with Egyptian high-ranking officials.
On 15 October 2018, the UWC President visited Cairo, where he met with members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group “Egypt-Ukraine”. During the meeting, Eugene Czolij discussed the situation in the Donbas and Crimea, the reform progress in Ukraine, and strengthening of Egypt-Ukraine political, trade, and economic relations.
On this day, Eugene Czolij attended a community meeting with Ukrainians in Egypt, which took place in the Embassy of Ukraine in Egypt. In the course of the meeting, the UWC President shared information about UWC activities at the global level. After his speech, the leader of the active group of Ukrainians, Lilia Diduk, screened a slide presentation on the life of Ukrainians in Egypt.
On 16 October 2018, the UWC President went to Alexandria, where he visited the Library of Alexandria with local Ukrainians and laid a wreath at the plaque dedicated to renowned Ukrainian poet Lesya Ukrainka.
Eugene Czolij also discussed with Ukrainians in Alexandria future interaction.
During his visit, the UWC President met the Ambassador of Ukraine to Egypt, Hennadi Latii, who also accompanied him to his meetings.
“The Ukrainian World Congress anticipates that these initial meetings with Ukrainians in Cairo and Alexandria will develop into a long-term and fruitful relationship,” said UWC President Eugene Czolij.
