On 2 October 2016 Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) President Eugene Czolij addressed the XXV Triennial Congress of Ukrainian Canadians, the highest forum of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC), which took place 29 September-2 October 2016 in Regina, Canada.
The UWC President noted that the Congress was taking place simultaneously with the commemoration of significant dates in the history of Ukrainians in Canada: 25th anniversary of Ukrainian independence, 125th anniversary of the settlement of Ukrainians in Canada and 75th anniversary of the UCC, and expressed gratitude to the UCC for its active work, as well as its cooperation and support for the UWC.
In his remarks, the UWC President highlighted that the main focus of the diaspora must remain on the defence of the territorial integrity of Ukraine. He called upon the UCC to continue actively supporting Ukraine as our fellow Ukrainians are stopping the advance of the imperialist Russian aggressor to the West. Eugene Czolij also encouraged continued support for UWC humanitarian initiatives and active engagement in countering Russian propaganda by presenting to the world factual information on Ukraine.
The UWC President congratulated the newly-elected UCC Board of Directors and presided over the swearing-in ceremony of re-elected UCC President Paul Grod.
Upon adjournment of the Congress, Eugene Czolij joined the delegates for a wreath-laying ceremony at the monument honoring the memory of the victims of the Holodomor.
“The Ukrainian World Congress welcomes the newly-elected Board of Directors of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress with President Paul Grod and anticipates continued cooperation in the attainment of our common goals,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij.
