UKRAINIAN WORLD CONGRESS PRESIDENT ADDRESSES


V WORLD FORUM OF UKRAINIANS


 


The V World Forum of Ukrainians convened on August 19, 2011, in Kyiv, Ukraine, at the T. H. Shevchenko National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet. In attendance were representatives of Ukraine and the eastern and western diasporas, including delegates of the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) and its member organizations.

 


UWC President Eugene Czolij extended greetings to Forum participants on the occasion of the upcoming 20th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence. He also delivered an address in which he highlighted the most recent troubling events in Ukraine, informed about UWC’s actions in defence of human and national rights of Ukrainians in Ukraine and beyond its borders, and called upon government and judicial structures in Ukraine to stop Ukraine’s return to an authoritarian system of government and its Soviet past, to release political opponents who have been arrested, former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and former Minister of Internal Affairs Yuriy Lutsenko, and to also remove Dmytro Tabachnyk from the position of Minister of Education.
