UWC meets with Ukrainian community in Alberta
On 31 May – 2 June 2013 UWC President Eugene Czolij visited the province of Alberta to meet with the Ukrainian community.
Eugene Czolij began the visit in Edmonton on 31 May with meetings at the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies (CIUS) of the University of Alberta in Edmonton. He met with Dr. Roman Shiyan, CIUS Research and Administrative Assistant, and Dr. Peter Savaryn, former UWC President and former University of Alberta Chancellor, to discuss opportunities for future cooperation between the UWC and CIUS.
That same evening, the UWC President addressed a community meeting at the Ukrainian Youth Unity Complex where he presented the work of the UWC. While in Edmonton he was interviewed by radio host Roman Brytan for 101.7 World FM.
Eugene Czolij then travelled to Jasper, Alberta, for a two-day organizational development conference sponsored by the Edmonton Branches of the League of Ukrainian Canadians, League of Ukrainian Canadian Women and Ukrainian Youth Association on 1-2 June. The UWC President spoke to conference delegates about the significance of Ukraine’s Euro-integration to further secure Ukraine’s independence and enhance its democratization and prosperity.
The UWC President also participated in a commemorative service and laid a wreath at the monument marking the location of the Jasper Internment Camp where Ukrainians were interned during World War I.
The UWC extends a special thank you to the Edmonton Branches of the League of Ukrainian Canadians, League of Ukrainian Canadian Women and Ukrainian Youth Association for hosting the visit.
