UKRAINIAN WORLD CONGRESS LEADERSHIP MEETS WITH
THE HEAD OF THE UKRAINIAN GREEK CATHOLIC CHURCH
HIS BEATITUDE SVIATOSLAV (SHEVCHUK)
On August 24, 2011, in Kyiv, the first official meeting took place between the leadership of the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) and the Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) His Beatitude Sviatoslav (Shevchuk). Representing the UWC were President Eugene Czolij, Secretary-General Stefan Romaniw and former President Askold Lozynskyj.
The UWC leadership greeted His Beatitude Sviatoslav (Shevchuk) on Ukrainian Independence Day and his election to the high-ranking position of Head of the UGCC, and assured him of UWC’s support for his work for the benefit of the Ukrainian nation in Ukraine and the diaspora.
Participants of the meeting discussed current events in Ukraine and the Ukrainian diaspora, the significance of Ukrainians worldwide in the development of an independent Ukraine, and the appointment of an official representative of the UGCC to the UWC Board of Directors and the revival of the UWC Committee on Church Affairs. In addition, there was a discussion about the completion of the Patriarchal Centre of the UGCC in Kyiv and the erection on its territory of a memorial to the translators of the Bible – Panteleimon Kulish, Ivan Pulyui and Ivan Nechuy-Levytsky.
