Ukrainian World Congress extends greetings to the newly elected Pope

On the occasion of the election and installation of Pope Francis, Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) President Eugene Czolij extended the following greetings:

Your Holiness!

On behalf of the Ukrainian World Congress please accept our sincerest greetings on the occasion of your election and installation as Supreme Pontiff!

It was a momentous event for all Christians when Your Holiness, through God’s will, was elected as the most worthy to be entrusted with the Catholic Church.

The Catholic Church is home to millions of faithful, including Ukrainians in both Ukraine and the diaspora. We are particularly pleased that Your Holiness is very familiar with the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. As a student in the Salesian school, Your Holiness attended Divine Liturgies celebrated by Ukrainian Greek Catholic priest Stepan Chmil.

Sharing in the joy of your election as Supreme Pontiff, we trust that Your Holiness will be empathetic to the global Ukrainian community and the recognition of the Patriarchate of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church.

We pray that God grants Your Holiness many years, boundless strength and energy to continue serving God, the Catholic Church and its faithful around the world.

Glory to Jesus Christ!
