UWC EXPRESSES DISMAY
OVER THE PERSISTENT CONTINUATION OF POLITICALLY MOTIVATED ACTIONS BY
UKRAINIAN AUTHORITIES WITH RESPECT TO OPPOSITION LEADER YULIA TYMOSHENKO
The Ukrainian World Congress is gravely concerned about events surrounding the transfer on December 30, 2011, of opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko to the Kachanivska women’s prison № 54.
As previously reported, on November 29, 2011, former Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko was transferred to the medical ward of the Lukyanivska prison in Kyiv due to deteriorating health.
On December 8, 2011, the Shevchenkivskyi District Court in the city of Kyiv ruled that she would remain in the Kyiv prison.
On December 30, 2011, however, Yulia Tymoshenko, who has difficulty moving independently due to back problems, was taken by medical transport to the Kachanivska women’s prison near Kharkiv.
The Ukrainian World Congress expresses dismay over the persistent continuation of politically motivated actions by Ukrainian authorities with respect to opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko further demonstrated by her needless five-hour transfer from Kyiv to Kharkiv without regard for the state of her health.
