PRESS RELEASE

UKRAINIAN WORLD CONGRESS EXPRESSES DEEP CONCERN ABOUT THE DECISION BY THE CASSATION PANEL OF RUSSIA’S SUPREME COURT REGARDING THE FEDERAL NATIONAL CULTURAL AUTONOMY OF UKRAINIANS OF RUSSIA

On January 27, 2011 the Cassation Panel of Russia’s Supreme Court rejected the appeal of the Federal National Cultural Autonomy of Ukrainians of Russia.  This was the third such decision by a judicial body in Russia (following the Tver Regional Court in Moscow and the Supreme Court of Russia) which supported the allegations made by the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation regarding the Federal National Cultural Autonomy of Ukrainians of Russia.

“The Ukrainian World Congress believes that the efforts of the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation to liquidate the Federal National Cultural Autonomy of Ukrainians of Russia are testimony to the violation of national rights of Ukrainians in Russia, and expresses its deep concern over the decision by the Cassation Panel of the Supreme Court of Russia in this regard,” stated Ukrainian World Congress President Eugene Czolij.
