UKRAINIAN WORLD CONGRESS EXPRESSES CONDOLENCES


OVER TRAGEDIES IN UKRAINIAN MINES




The Ukrainian World Congress expresses sincere condolences to the families and friends of the miners who died on 29 July 2011 in two separate mining accidents – an explosion in the “Sukhodil’s’k-Skhidna” mine in the city of Sukhodil’s’k, Luhans’k region, and the collapse of an elevator shaft in the Bazhanov mine in the city of Makiyivka, Donets’k region. As a result of the two accidents 37 miners died and six were hospitalized with injuries of varying severity.

 


The Ukrainian diaspora was deeply saddened upon learning of the tragedies which occurred in the Ukrainian mines and joins the Ukrainian people in Ukraine in prayer for the souls of the deceased and the recovery of the injured. The Ukrainian World Congress calls upon Ukrainian authorities to ensure the maintenance of safety measures in Ukrainian mines and to do everything possible to investigate the causes of the accidents in the “Sukhodil’s’k-Skhidna” and Bazhanov mines,” stated Ukrainian World Congress President Eugene Czolij.
