UWC condemns violent attempts to disperse protests and delivers message of solidarity to Ukrainians in Ukraine
On 25 November 2013, addressing Ukrainians gathered on Kyiv’s European Square and in front of the Cabinet of Ministers, Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) Secretary General Stefan Romaniw condemned the violent attempts of the militia to disperse protesters in Ukraine and subsequently, curtail their right to freedom of expression. He called on the protesters to withstand all provocations and continue with peaceful demonstrations.
The UWC Secretary General delivered a message of solidarity with the people in Ukraine from the millions-strong Ukrainian diaspora, commending their resolve to protect their future.
The UWC has been steadfastly working to ensure the acceptance of Ukraine into the European community while calling on Ukraine’s governing authorities to sign the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement during the Third Summit of the Eastern Partnership in Vilnius on 28-29 November 2013.
“We are with you,” reaffirmed Stefan Romaniw. “Similar demonstrations are taking place around the world to show that the diaspora supports the European aspirations of the Ukrainian people. Ukraine – is Europe!”
