UWC commemorates 25th anniversary of the Constitution of Ukraine

Today the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) joins all Ukrainians and friends of Ukraine globally in commemorating the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of Ukraine.

The adoption of the fundamental law of Ukraine is a landmark event in Ukraine’s modern history. It became possible following a nearly 300 year-long struggle for the Ukrainian statehood. We are proud of the contributions of diaspora Ukrainians, who joined the efforts to draft Ukraine’s Constitution.

The Constitution defines Ukraine as a sovereign, independent, democratic, social and law-based state. It established the state status of the Ukrainian language and the irreversibility of the European and Euro-Atlantic vector for Ukraine. Finally, the Constitution laid foundation for the establishment of the Ukrainian civil society, essential for the progress of reforms in Ukraine today.

“Ukraine’s Constitution is the embodiment of a nation.  It connects Ukrainians around the world to Ukraine. The global Ukrainian community is committed to strengthening Ukraine’s democratic institutions. As such, we continue to support Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to implement meaningful judicial and rule of law reforms,” stated Paul Grod, UWC President.
