The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) draws attention to the disturbing actions of Russian governing authorities against Ukrainians in the Russian Federation and calls upon the international community, including human rights organizations, to immediately react.

On 28 October 2015, Russian police raided the Library of Ukrainian Literature in Moscow in search of so‑called “anti-Russian propaganda”, removing specific volumes of Ukrainian literature, and searched the home of its Director, Natalya Sharina, who was detained for questioning and remains imprisoned.

That same day, Russian forces raided the private home of Valerij Semenenko, member of the UWC Board of Directors and the former co-chairman of the Union of Ukrainians in Russia liquidated by Russian authorities in 2012. After the search, he was detained and questioned by the local prosecutor.

“The Ukrainian World Congress calls upon the international community, including human rights organizations, to investigate the alarming actions by Russian governing authorities against Ukrainians in the Russian Federation and immediately react to human rights violations,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij.
