The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) calls upon the international community to support a resolution of the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), as initiated by Ukraine, on human rights violations in Crimea.

The resolution, to be considered on 15 November 2016, condemns the abuses and discrimination against the residents of the illegally occupied Crimea, including Ukrainians, Crimean Tatars and persons belonging to other ethnic and religious groups, by the Russian occupation authorities; and urges the Russian Federation to uphold all of its obligations under applicable international law.

The UWC appeals to Ukrainian organizations worldwide and all friends of Ukraine to join in raising awareness of the significance of this resolution.

“The Ukrainian World Congress urges all delegations to the UN General Assembly to support this resolution on human rights violations in illegally occupied Crimea, thereby reinforcing the message to the Russian Federation that violations of international law and commitments, and blatant abuses of basic human rights and fundamental freedoms will not be tolerated by the international community,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij.
