The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) condemns the so-called “elections” to the State Duma of the Russian Federation in the illegally occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol held on 18 September 2016 and calls for the international community to declare these “elections” illegitimate and to strengthen sanctions in response to this latest blatant violation of international law.
The international community, including international organizations, parliamentary assemblies, and the overwhelming majority of national governments, has remained firm in its condemnation of the illegal occupation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol by the Russian Federation and as such, must not recognize the outcome of the so-called “elections” held in four Crimean single mandate constituencies by the Russian occupation authorities.
“The Ukrainian World Congress calls for the international community to reject any attempt by the Russian Federation to claim legitimacy for any electoral process in the illegally occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij.
