March 4, 2025 – The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) and the global Ukrainian community are deeply concerned by recent statements from a White House official on Monday, who said: “We are pausing and reviewing our aid [for Ukraine] to ensure that it is contributing to a solution.”
The UWC and the Ukrainian people remain profoundly grateful to the United States for their unwavering commitment and significant military, economic, and political support provided thus far. However, the American people must not allow Vladimir Putin to outsmart the United States and subjugate the Ukrainian people. We must stand united against this global bully and war criminal.
The UWC urgently calls upon President Trump and the United States Congress to maintain and expand their critical military, economic, and political support for Ukraine as it bravely resists Russia’s ongoing military aggression and attempts at occupation.
Ukraine’s very survival as a sovereign nation hinges on receiving uninterrupted support in missile defense and other defensive capabilities. Ukrainian civilians face daily Russian missile and drone attacks that target cities, residential neighborhoods, and essential civilian infrastructure. Without continued robust support for Ukraine’s defensive capabilities, hundreds of thousands of innocent Ukrainians risk being murdered, and their communities reduced to rubble.
Furthermore, the cessation of military aid to Ukraine directly threatens U.S. national security. A decision to cut off U.S. aid would directly undermine President Trump’s stated goal of achieving a sustainable peace in Ukraine. Russia would exploit the withdrawal of U.S. support to seize additional Ukrainian territory, effectively weakening Ukraine and attempting to exhaust European support – a strategy clearly outlined by Vladimir Putin as his theory of victory. Such a scenario would destabilize the region further, embolden authoritarian regimes globally, and undermine American credibility and strategic interests abroad.
UWC President Paul Grod emphasizes: “By starving Ukraine of essential defensive systems, the United States will bear responsibility for unimaginable bloodshed. Russia’s intentions are unmistakably clear: they seek to occupy Ukraine and annihilate it as a sovereign nation. Every day, Ukrainian cities and civilian infrastructure are increasingly bombarded, underscoring the critical need for defensive military support.”
The Ukrainian World Congress urges immediate action by the United States to reaffirm and strengthen its commitment to Ukraine’s defense, a commitment not only to Ukrainian sovereignty but also to democracy, human rights, and the rule of law around the world.
