At this critical time of a severe threat to the sovereignty, independence, and freedom of Ukraine, the UWC President Paul Grod addressed the EU leadership, calling upon the European Union to support Ukraine and respond to Russian aggression with unity and resolve.
Particularly, official letters were sent to the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Council Charles Michele, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, and President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola.
On behalf of the UWC, Paul Grod thanked the EU for its unwavering support of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.
Considering the threat of a further invasion of sovereign Ukrainian territory and attempts to undermine the entire Euro-Atlantic security architecture by the Russian Federation, the UWC President called upon the EU leadership not to force Ukraine’s hand in accepting any form of a peace deal that will compel Ukraine to make concessions on its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence, or alter its geopolitical trajectory towards the EU and NATO.
He also called on the EU to maintain a clear and unequivocal position that any further Russian aggression, overt or covert, will be met with resolute and swift action.
Finally, Paul Grod urged the EU to support:
- Providing Ukrainians with the necessary military and economic support
- Accelerating a NATO Membership Action Plan and EU membership for Ukraine
- Increasing sanctions on Russia to deter further aggression against Ukraine
- Stopping the Nord Stream 2 pipeline from becoming operational
