UWC calls for investigation of Georgia’s parliamentary election results

The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) stands in unwavering solidarity with the people of Georgia and joins them in demanding a thorough transparent and independent investigation into the alleged irregularities in the recent parliamentary election. Many European and other international leaders, including Georgia’s President Salome Zourabichvili, asserted that the October 26 parliamentary election in Georgia was neither free nor fair.

“In this critical moment of history, Georgia faces an existential choice between freedom, pro-European democracy, and EU integration on one side, and isolation and pro-Russian authoritarianism on the other. The country’s democratic backsliding puts its sovereignty and statehood at stake amid Moscow’s attempt to drive the country into Russia’s sphere of influence,” stated UWC President Paul Grod.

“We call on the international democratic community to hold accountable those responsible for unfair electoral influence, intimidation, and threats against the Georgian opposition and civil society. The international democratic community must act immediately and without hesitation to support Georgian democracy and help stop Russia’s hybrid attack on this proud European nation. We must ensure fair elections and not let Russia steal Georgia’s future!” continued Grod.
